Belkin USB SERIAL PORT ADAPTER ( F5U409-CU ) Reviews

I purchased the product because it had the MAC support logo. I haven't been able to get it to work and support is no help. Its Junk. However it turns out that it only works on older MACs. I guess belkin is satisfied selling products that do not work.

I like the red and blue LED's that go on and off confirming that the adapter is working. This Belkin USB Adapter works flawlessly as opposed to a Keyspan USB adapter, which I also own that failed repeatedly to work. I use the Belkin USB Adapter with a MacBook Pro inside VMware Fusion 2 and Windows XP. I've used it primarily to run ARC-1 with my Anthem Statement D2.

But I am using an Asus EeePC, which has no Expresscard slot either. A better solution is a PCMCIA or Expresscard serial port card, which are about the same price as this USB adapter. It worked with a very old OmniData Polycorder data logger, did not work with an AGI SuperSting resistivity meter, and did not work with an AutoEnginuity automotive scan tool. Another disappointing product from Belkin. Both AGI and AutoEnginuity recommend the Keyspan USA-19HS, so I bought that instead. I bought this to interface a variety of different serial devices to a laptop with no serial ports. Doing some research, I found that the Keyspan is recommended by many different manufacturers, and it has a good reputation for working with most serial devices.

See:. I've had good service from Belkin in the past, this is the first junk & a waste of time for me from them. Have had it for ~3 months and about 15% of the time when accessing the device under XP SP3, I get a BSOD. http://forums.lavag.org/USB-to-Serial-adapter-problem-t8778.html Eliminated rest of setup and narrowed it down to Belkin drivers, on two different laptops. If you're serious about your task, consider a non-USB serial port solution.

Avoid this product if you happen to have an Intel based Mac. That is not the case if you have a newer Intel Mac running osx 10.x or better. There are no drivers and none of the universal drivers will work either. First I would like to say that I did not purchase this from Amazon. I did purchase this for my Macbook Pro as it stated that it supported Mac computers.
